The seventh list of National Cultural Relics Protection Units was issued by the State Council on May 6. Guangfulin Historical Site and Sheshan Observatory made the list.

Guangfulin Historical Site, discovered in 1959, is located in the northern part of Guangfulin Road, in the southern part of Yinhe Road, east of Shenjing Pond and west of Youdun Port. The discovery confirmed the site as a meeting point of the Yellow River civilization and Yangtze River civilization. A great number of significant cultural relics have been unearthed there.

Sheshan Observatory, a part of the Shanghai Observatory, is located at the top of west Sheshan Mountain. As one of the oldest astronomical observatories in China, Sheshan Observatory was built in a European style by French missionaries in 1900.

It covers an area of more than 8,000 square meters. It was once equipped with a binocular-refracting astronomical telescope with a diameter of 40 centimeters, the most advanced astronomical telescope in the Far East. The telescope has captured more than 7,000 precious astronomical photos in the past century.
