Baohua Temple

Updated : 2014-10-20

The Baohua Temple on Mount Wutai is located in Taergou, three to five kilometers north of Taihuai town in Shanxi province. Mountains and peaks from all directions surround the temple. The temple is facing south and has a large area covered with green trees, luscious grass and beautiful flowers, presenting excellent scenery for the enjoyment of locals and tourists alike.

Baohua Temple

Baohua Temple, originally called Zahua Convent, was built by Master Zhengcan, a monk of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and served as a Huayan Budhimanda. In 1711, Consul (Zhasake in Mongolian) Grand Lama rebuilt the temple and changed it into Shaman Budhimanda. In 1873, the monks in the temple rebuilt it. In 1903, the temple was renamed Baohua Temple. In 1990, Master Yanlin newly constructed Tianwang (Heavenly King) Hall, Manjusric Hall, and in 1998, he built the magnificent Grand Hall.
