MOSCOW, January - About 60 foreign leaders confirmed they would arrive to the Olympic Games in Sochi, a Kremlin aide said Friday.

"A very large number of top officials have given their consent (to attend the opening ceremony) -- this is about 60," Yuri Ushakov told reporters.

Leaders of China, Japan, Italy, heads of large international organizations and the United Nations have been among those sixty, he said.

According to the Kremlin aide, U.S. delegation has not sent their application to attend the Sochi Games.

On Monday, Norwegian King Harald V and Prime Minister Erna Solberg confirmed they would visit the Olympics.

The 22nd Winter Olympics will last from February 7 to 23. On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin has described the boycott Olympics campaign by some western countries "a remnant of the old way of thinking."

Putin himself said last week he was going to visit several events during the upcoming Sochi Olympics though he did not know so far which exactly.
