No explosives found after security alarm at Amsterdam airport

(Xinhua) Updated: 2016-04-13 16:29

THE HAGUE - Amsterdam's Schiphol airport was partially evacuated late Tuesday and one person was arrested after a security alarm, the Dutch military police stated on Wednesday.

The alarm was raised after a call alerting police to a "suspicious situation" around 9:30 pm (1930 GMT Tuesday). An individual was then arrested by the military police at Schiphol's plaza, the airport shopping center.

The Dutch Explosive Ordnance Disposal investigated the luggage of the suspect, but no explosives were found. Part of the airport was cordoned off for about four hours until the alert was lifted at around 1:30 am.

It remained unclear exactly what had triggered concerns or who had been arrested.

According to Dutch national broadcaster NOS, the police also held another two men near midnight, and a car with a Belgian license plate and four persons in it was shortly held as well with no reason given.

The airport said the incident did not affect flights and that all public transportation to and from Schiphol was operating on schedule.
