A new exhibition opened at the art gallery of Japan-China Friendship Center in Tokyo on July 18, as one of a series of cultural activities marking the 40th anniversary of the signing of China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship as well as the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up.

The 4th Shanghai Craft Show in Japan - Exhibition of Woolen Embroidery features more than 50 woolen embroidery works created by Shanghai artists in recent years, including replicas of murals in Mogao Caves, embroideries of Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night, and Johannes Vermeer's The Milkmaid.

Sixteen Japanese people attended a workshop to learn techniques of the exquisite Chinese needle work on July 19, the second day of the exhibition's opening.

The exhibition will end on July 24. It will then tour in Osaka and Nagasaki.

Shanghai's woolen embroidery, fusing traditional Chinese craftsmanship with Western art, was listed as a state-level intangible cultural heritage in China in 2011.
