A Chinese mainland spokesman on Tuesday urged Japanese politicians to be cautious in dealing with the Taiwan question after a delegation of Japanese lawmakers arrived in Taiwan on Monday.

They should fully understand the sensitivity of the Taiwan question and recognize the fact there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is a part of China, said Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

Ma made the remarks as a delegation, led by Keiji Furuya, a member of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, paid a visit Taiwan for a two-day trip, including meeting with the island authorities.

Some Japanese politicians and lawmakers followed others in visiting Taiwan to gain political interests, Ma said, adding "We firmly oppose this."

Urging the Japanese politicians to draw lessons from history, Ma said they should take concrete action to abide by the one-China principle and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan.

He warned the Democratic Progressive Party authorities on Taiwan their colluding with external forces to seek "independence" of the island was doomed to failure.
