DPP purposely distorts WWII history to serve its secessionist plot: mainland spokesperson

BEIJING -- Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities purposely distort historical facts about the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression with the sole aim of serving its secessionist plot, a Chinese mainland spokesperson said Wednesday.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks at a regular press conference, refuting a series of erroneous claims regarding the war by the DPP, including its effacement of the Communist Party of China (CPC)'s role in the war.
The DPP authorities' effacement of the CPC's role as the central pillar in the war against Japanese aggression is a grave insult to all those who fell during the war, and a shameless betrayal of the entire Chinese nation, said Zhu.
She added that it fully reveals the DPP's sinister intentions to misrepresent history, instigate confrontation across the Taiwan Strait, and pursue its secessionist goal with every means possible.
Regarding Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te referring Aug 15 as the 80th anniversary of "the end of World War II on the Pacific front" and avoiding expressions such as "Japanese aggression" or "victory of the war against Japanese aggression" in a piece of writing he posted that day, Zhu noted that Lai's remarks show that he has completely lost his national stance and intentionally ignored the historical facts of Chinese people's resistance against Japanese aggression.
From 1931 to 1945, all sons and daughters of the Chinese nation, including Taiwan compatriots, defeated Japanese militarists after bloodshed and enormous sacrifices, said Zhu.
She expressed hope that together, compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait can remember the history, honor the fallen heroes, safeguard the overall interests of the Chinese nation and the results of victory, take resolute steps to oppose "Taiwan independence" and external interference, and jointly pursue the bright future of reunification and national rejuvenation.
