Flood control, drought relief, and windstorm prevention authorities in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, announced suspensions of classes, work, production, transportation, and business operations across the city on Tuesday afternoon, as Super Typhoon Ragasa approaches.

Ragasa, the 18th typhoon of the year, was upgraded to a super typhoon by China's National Meteorological Center on Sunday morning, with the maximum wind force near the center reaching above level 17.

The typhoon is expected to make landfall on Wednesday along the coastal area between Zhuhai and Xuwen county in Guangdong, with its wind force reaching from level 14 to level 16, according to local meteorological authorities.

Classes in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, vocational institutes, and technical and training organizations will be suspended from Tuesday.

All types of industrial parks, production bases, and factories are required to halt production starting from 7 pm.

Public transportation, including metro services, buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services, will be cancelled across the city starting from midnight on Wednesday.

All supermarkets, agricultural markets, restaurants, amusement venues, parks, and tourist attractions, as well as delivery and food take-out services, will cease operations starting at 9 pm on Tuesday.

Early on Monday, most cities in Guangdong's coastal area announced similar suspensions in preparation for the super typhoon's landfall.
